We children used to look forward for festivals like Diwali and Holi as we got new clothes, sweets,
Varitiey of food items, meeting my cousins and of course crackers.
When all of us gathered , I think we were all around 50 in total and now the same festival I celebrate with my Husband, Son and a Foster Son and unfortunately at my In-laws house we don't have such elaborate Puja on Diwali Night ,the way I had seen my Dadi doing it. Each one of us used to contribute in what ever way possible for the evening Puja. All the Ladies were given the charge of the Kitchen ( as from morning till evening different dishes were made), the males were given the charge of marketing ( puja samagri, crackers, sweets etc.) and all the children were given the cleaning work and making Rangoli ( which I sill like it and do it).
In the evening we had an elaborate PUJA but then we never got sweets on the same day, we got it the next day that too the Kuthal which each one of us had filled on the Diwali Night. Since the total no. of children was 15 to 18 we got very few crackers but then we were satisfied. We never knew what branded clothes mean, what ever our parents got stitched for us we wore. I think these all will be difficult for todays kids to understand.
When I sit alone and think--- where have all gone -- each one of us is limited to our own nest---how will todays child learn relationship, adjustments, sharing , satisfaction, bonding etc......and I get no answer. I think this all Life about.
